FAQ
What is the history of the Dimitri Wreck?
The vessel is believed to be a WWII-era cargo ship that sank off the coast of Kaş. The exact circumstances of its sinking are debated, but it has lain on the seabed for decades, becoming one of the eastern Mediterranean's finest wreck dives.
What depth does the wreck sit at?
The wreck lies on a slope, with the shallowest point of the deck at about 28 m and the deepest sections extending to approximately 40–42 m. Most of the interesting features can be explored between 30 and 38 m.
Why is this rated as advanced?
The depth (28–42 m) means limited bottom time on recreational equipment, and the slope requires careful buoyancy management. Air consumption management is critical to ensure sufficient bottom time to explore the wreck and complete safety stops.
What are the amphora fragments?
Kaş sits on ancient Lycian trade routes, and amphora (clay transport vessels) fragments scattered on the seabed are remnants of ancient shipwrecks. They are protected archaeological artefacts and must not be disturbed or removed.
What is the visibility like?
The eastern Mediterranean off Kaş has some of Turkey's best visibility, regularly exceeding 25–30 metres during summer months. The water clarity makes this an outstanding site for photography.
