Why Apple Watch Ultra Only

We get asked this a lot: 'Will DiveOne work on my Apple Watch Series 9?' The short answer is no. Here's the long answer.

The depth gauge exists only on Ultra models

Apple Watch Ultra and Ultra 2 are the only Apple Watch models with a built-in depth gauge rated to 40 meters (EN 13319). Standard Apple Watch models (Series 5–9, SE) do not have a depth sensor. Without a depth sensor, dive tracking is impossible. This isn't a software limitation — it's a hardware fact.

The water temperature sensor

The Ultra's water temperature sensor provides real-time readings during submersion. Standard models have a skin temperature sensor designed for health tracking on land — it doesn't measure water temperature accurately or at all while submerged.

Water resistance rating

Apple Watch Ultra is rated WR100 and tested for recreational diving to 40m under EN 13319. Standard Apple Watch models are rated WR50 — suitable for shallow water activities like swimming, but not designed for submersion at diving depths.

Our commitment to honesty

We could build a version that works on standard Apple Watch — showing surface time, GPS, and basic session logging. But we won't label that 'dive tracking' because it wouldn't include actual depth data. We'd rather support fewer devices honestly than more devices misleadingly.
