FAQ
When can I see whale sharks at Lima Rock?
Whale sharks are most frequently spotted in the Musandam waters from September to November, when plankton blooms attract these gentle giants. Sightings are not guaranteed, but Lima Rock's position near the open waters of the Strait of Hormuz gives it some of the best chances in the region. Encounters can also occur at other times of year.
How do I get to Lima Rock?
Lima Rock is accessed by boat from Khasab, the main town in Oman's Musandam Peninsula. The boat ride takes about 30 to 45 minutes through the dramatic fjord-like inlets called khors that make Musandam famous. Several dive operators in Khasab offer trips to Lima Rock, often combined with other Musandam dive sites.
What is the difference between Lima Rock North and Lima Rock South?
Lima Rock is a small rocky island about 1.5 km off Ras Lima, and the north and south sides offer different experiences. The north side has depths from 3 to 25 metres with more gentle slopes and coral gardens, suitable for all levels. The south side is steeper, reaching 30 to 45 metres, and is recommended for intermediate to advanced divers. Both sides feature excellent marine life.
