FAQ

What makes Blue Bay Marine Park special?

Blue Bay Marine Park is Mauritius's most important marine reserve, established in 1997 and covering 353 hectares. It protects 38 species of coral, including a remarkable 1,000-year-old brain coral measuring 5 metres in diameter. The shallow lagoon with depths of 1-6 metres provides ideal conditions for snorkelling and observation, and the park's protected status has allowed coral and fish populations to thrive.

Can you scuba dive in Blue Bay Marine Park?

Blue Bay is primarily a snorkelling destination due to its shallow depths of 1-5 metres. However, some operators offer introductory discover scuba experiences in the lagoon. The shallow, clear water and abundance of coral and fish make it one of the best places in Mauritius for beginners to experience the underwater world. Glass-bottom boat tours are also available for non-swimmers.

How do you get to Blue Bay Marine Park?

Blue Bay Marine Park is located in the southeast of Mauritius, about 15 minutes by car from Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport and close to the historic town of Mahebourg. Access to the water is from the Blue Bay public beach, and glass-bottom boats and snorkelling tours depart regularly from the shoreline. Entry to the marine park requires a small fee.
