FAQ
Why is Le Sec Jaune considered the best dive in Reunion?
Le Sec Jaune is consistently rated as the signature dive of Reunion Island. The site is a volcanic pinnacle that rises from deeper water, creating a compact ecosystem where an extraordinary density and variety of marine life concentrates. The plateau section is particularly rich in flora and fauna, with remarkable fish mimicry species that reward careful observation. It combines reef, wall, and cave dive elements in a single site.
What depth is Le Sec Jaune and who can dive it?
The top of the pinnacle starts at around 5-10 metres, with the main reef plateau at 15-25 metres. A dramatic drop-off on one side descends beyond 60 metres. Recreational divers typically explore the 5-25 metre range, which is accessible to Open Water certified divers with some experience. Advanced divers can explore the deeper wall sections. The site is within the Natural Marine Reserve of Reunion.
When can you see humpback whales while diving in Reunion?
Humpback whales visit Reunion's waters from June to October for breeding and calving. While they are not typically seen underwater during dives, their songs can often be heard, and surface sightings during boat transfers are common during this period. Some operators offer dedicated whale-watching snorkel excursions during peak whale season.
