The Lighthouse

The Lighthouse is Dahab's most popular and most frequently dived site, situated at the southern end of the town's waterfront promenade. Shore entry is among the easiest in the Red Sea: a few steps from the dive centres, you walk across a flat reef shelf and descend a gentle coral slope. The reef extends from 3 meters to beyond 40 meters, offering a vast canvas of hard coral formations — table corals, brain corals, and fire corals intermix in a healthy, colourful reef system. The Lighthouse is legendary for macro life. Patient divers regularly find pygmy seahorses on sea fans, a variety of nudibranchs on sponges, and ghost pipefish hiding among crinoids. Blue-spotted ribbontail rays rest on sandy patches between coral heads, and small moray eels peer from their holes. Octopuses are common and often seen changing colour as they move across the reef. The site is also one of the Red Sea's premier night-dive locations: hunting lionfish, free-swimming Spanish dancers, and bioluminescent plankton make after-dark dives magical. Visibility is typically 25–30 meters, and currents are virtually nonexistent, making it ideal for photography, training dives, and relaxed exploration. Multiple dive centres line the shore, and most offer house-reef access to The Lighthouse throughout the day. Surface intervals can be spent at the many restaurants and cafés directly on the waterfront. The dive's versatility — suitable from absolute beginners to seasoned photographers — makes it a site you can dive dozens of times and still discover something new.
