Overview
The Islands is a stunning shore dive located about 1 kilometre north of the Blue Hole, making it one of the more remote Dahab sites accessible by land. Named after a series of coral pinnacles that break the surface, the dive features a chain of reef formations rising from 20–30 meters of depth to within a few meters of the surface. These pinnacles are covered in healthy hard and soft corals, with gaps and channels between them creating natural swim-throughs. The seaward side drops into deep blue water, where larger marine life patrols — Napoleon wrasse are commonly sighted, and green sea turtles cruise along the reef edge. Barracuda schools often hang in the blue beyond the outer pinnacles, and eagle rays make occasional passes. The channels between the islands funnel current, attracting schooling fish and creating a dynamic diving experience. The inner reef slope offers a gentler dive profile with coral gardens rich in butterflyfish, anthias, and moray eels. Access requires a short drive from Dahab followed by a walk across the reef flat. The remoteness means fewer divers and more pristine conditions than the town sites. Visibility regularly reaches 30 meters, and water temperatures follow the standard Dahab range of 21–28 °C through the year. The site is exposed to northerly winds, and on rough days, entry can be challenging. Experienced local guides know the best routes through the pinnacle chain depending on conditions.
