Hin Muang

Hin Muang (Purple Rock) is a fully submerged reef located approximately 500 meters from Hin Daeng in the open Andaman Sea. While its partner site is famed for red corals, Hin Muang earns its name from the dense purple soft corals that cover its walls — creating an otherworldly purple landscape that intensifies with depth. The reef consists of a long ridge running roughly east-west, with its shallowest point at about 8 meters and the wall plunging to over 70 meters on the southern face — making it the deepest wall dive in Thailand. The scale of the wall is awe-inspiring, dropping into deep blue with massive purple and yellow gorgonian fans extending from the rock. The same pelagic species that visit Hin Daeng are encountered here: manta rays circle the ridge, grey reef sharks patrol the deeper wall, and whale sharks make seasonal appearances. Schools of barracuda, batfish, and fusiliers are present on every dive. Large groupers occupy ledges on the wall. The reef top hosts hard corals, anemones, and typical reef fish. Because Hin Muang is entirely submerged with no surface-breaking features, navigation requires a reliable dive guide and good reference points. Currents can be strong and unpredictable, and the deep wall presents narcosis and decompression considerations for divers tempted to descend deeper. Hin Muang and Hin Daeng are always dived together on the same trip, and many divers consider Hin Muang's purple wall to be the more visually striking of the two.
