Gabr el-Bint

Gabr el-Bint is widely regarded as Dahab's finest dive site, hidden within the Ras Abu Galum National Park south of the town. Reaching it requires either a 45-minute camel ride or a 4x4 drive along the coast, followed by a short walk to the entry point. This remoteness is the site's greatest asset — the reef is pristine, unaffected by heavy dive traffic, and teeming with life. The underwater topography features a dramatic wall dropping from a shallow reef shelf into depths exceeding 60 meters. The wall is festooned with enormous soft coral trees in vivid reds, oranges, and purples, alongside large gorgonian fans. Napoleon wrasse are resident and remarkably unafraid of divers. The blue water beyond the wall is where Gabr el-Bint truly excels: eagle rays glide past regularly, schools of jackfish and barracuda patrol the mid-water, and on lucky days, hammerhead sharks are spotted in the deeper blue. Reef sharks are seen more consistently, cruising the wall's edge. The shallow reef shelf at 5–10 meters provides a superb safety-stop environment with coral gardens hosting groupers, moray eels, and colourful reef fish. Visibility is outstanding, often exceeding 35 meters, and the protected bay setting means surface conditions are usually calm. Due to the logistics of access, Gabr el-Bint is typically a full-day excursion, but every diver who makes the journey considers it the highlight of their Dahab diving.
