Fushifaru Thila

Fushifaru Thila is a charming pinnacle dive in Lhaviyani Atoll, offering a more relaxed alternative to the area's famous wreck dives. The thila rises from a sandy bottom at 25 metres to a broad, flat top at approximately 8 metres, creating an accessible and richly populated dive site. The pinnacle's crown is covered in thriving hard coral gardens — table corals, staghorn formations, and massive porites boulders create a varied landscape that supports an impressive diversity of reef fish. Schools of bannerfish and fusiliers swirl above the coral, while surgeonfish and parrotfish graze along the surface. Cleaning stations attract sea turtles, which are among the site's most reliable residents, often seen resting on the coral top or hovering patiently while cleaner wrasse attend to them. The walls of the thila are more vertical on the western side, where overhangs shelter groupers, lionfish, and giant moray eels. Soft corals add colour to the deeper sections, and sea fans extend into the current. Whitetip reef sharks are occasionally spotted on the sandy base, and Napoleon wrasse patrol the mid-water zone. Eagle rays make periodic appearances, sweeping around the pinnacle in graceful arcs. Moderate currents are common but rarely challenging, making Fushifaru Thila suitable for confident intermediate divers. The site works well for both morning and afternoon dives, with different lighting creating distinct moods. It is a thoroughly enjoyable dive that showcases the quiet beauty of Lhaviyani Atoll's underwater landscape.
