Fukui Point

Fukui Point on the eastern side of Bunaken Island is celebrated for having the highest density of sea turtles in the national marine park, making it a must-visit for turtle enthusiasts and photographers. The site features a unique topography where a classic Bunaken vertical wall transitions into a gentle coral-covered slope, offering two distinct diving environments in a single dive. The wall section drops dramatically with healthy gorgonian fans and sponge growth, while the slope is blanketed in hard corals that provide resting spots for turtles and hunting grounds for a wealth of macro life. On a typical dive, encounters with a dozen or more green and hawksbill turtles are the norm rather than the exception. The turtles at Fukui Point are remarkably relaxed around divers, allowing extended observations and close-up photography. The coral slope is a macro photographer's paradise — nudibranchs, flatworms, pipefish, and mantis shrimp hide among the coral rubble, while porcelain crabs and shrimp occupy anemone hosts. The reef flat in the shallows is excellent for extended safety stops, with colourful coral gardens and juvenile fish adding interest during decompression. Barracuda and Napoleon wrasse are frequently seen along the wall, and eagle rays occasionally pass through. The mild currents and diverse topography make Fukui Point an excellent all-day diving destination, with morning and afternoon dives revealing different lighting and marine life behaviour.
