Anita's Reef
Overview
Anita's Reef is a beautiful, accessible dive site on the sheltered eastern side of Similan Island 5 (Koh Ha), offering a gentle alternative to the more challenging sites in the archipelago. The reef slopes gradually from 5 meters to about 25 meters, covered in excellent hard coral formations — staghorn corals, brain corals, table corals, and massive Porites bommies create a diverse reef structure. Hawksbill and green sea turtles are commonly encountered, often resting under overhangs or feeding on sponges. The reef's calm conditions and colourful coral make it a favourite for underwater photography. Moray eels peer from holes in the coral heads, octopuses change colour as they traverse the reef, and anemonefish defend their territories vigorously. Schools of fusiliers and snapper stream over the reef, and parrotfish graze on coral, their crunching audible underwater. Barracuda occasionally patrol the reef edge. The site is particularly popular for night dives — sleeping parrotfish in their mucus cocoons, hunting lionfish, and prowling moray eels make for an exciting after-dark experience. Anita's Reef is a standard liveaboard stop in the Similans, often used as a check dive, night dive, or relaxed afternoon immersion. While it lacks the adrenaline of Richelieu Rock or Koh Tachai, its pristine coral gardens and reliable turtle encounters make it a thoroughly rewarding dive that showcases the Similan Islands' reef health.
