Amed Wall

Amed Wall is one of Bali's most rewarding wall dives, located along the northeast coast in the traditional fishing village of Amed. The dive begins with a gentle shore entry over black volcanic sand before the reef shelf gives way to a dramatic vertical wall that plunges well beyond recreational limits. The wall is adorned with enormous gorgonian sea fans, dense soft coral growth, and ancient black coral trees that provide habitat for pygmy seahorses, ghost pipefish, and an astonishing variety of nudibranchs. As you drift along the wall at depth, keep an eye on the blue for reef sharks and schools of barracuda that patrol the drop-off. The shallower sections of the wall and the reef flat are equally rewarding, with a wealth of macro subjects hiding among the hard corals. Leaf scorpionfish, ornate ghost pipefish, and robust ghost pipefish are regularly spotted. The site is well suited to both beginner and intermediate divers, as the shallower reef top at 5–12 metres offers a gentle introduction while the deeper wall satisfies more experienced explorers. Shore entry keeps logistics simple, and the site is diveable year-round, though April to November offers the best visibility and calmest seas. Night dives here are also excellent, with Spanish dancers and hunting lionfish adding drama after dark.
