About this center
Punta Uva Dive Center is the premier PADI dive operation on Costa Rica's Caribbean coast, located at the beautiful Punta Uva beach near Puerto Viejo de Talamanca in Limon Province. This is the only side of Costa Rica where you can dive on living coral reefs, offering a completely different experience from the Pacific coast's volcanic rock formations.
The Caribbean coast features Costa Rica's most intact coral reef ecosystem, with close to 40 species of coral supporting hundreds of species of mollusks and dense populations of colorful reef fish. The reef at nearby Cahuita National Park is the largest living coral reef on the country's Caribbean coastline. Divers can expect to see nurse sharks, parrotfish, seahorses, moray eels, angelfish, lobsters, and a kaleidoscope of tropical reef species.
The center offers PADI courses from introductory Discover Scuba Diving through Divemaster, plus specialty certifications. Shore diving is available directly from Punta Uva beach, while boat trips access deeper sites along the coast and around Isla Uvita. The reef acts as a natural barrier that reduces current and swell, making conditions excellent for beginners. Best visibility is from September through October when crystal-clear conditions prevail. The multilingual team speaks English, Spanish, and French.
