About this center
Papa's Diving Studio is a PADI 5 Star Dive Resort on Chichijima Island in the Ogasawara (Bonin) Islands, approximately 1,000 kilometers south of Tokyo. Operating since 1983, it is the longest-established and most recognized dive operation in the Ogasawara archipelago, offering access to some of Japan's most pristine and remote diving in waters often called 'Bonin Blue' for their extraordinary clarity.
The Ogasawara Islands are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, often referred to as 'Japan's Galapagos' for their unique endemic species and untouched marine ecosystems. Diving here offers encounters with dolphins, humpback whales (seasonal), sharks, giant trevally, green sea turtles, and diverse pelagic life. The underwater topography includes dramatic volcanic walls, coral gardens, and blue-water diving where visibility regularly exceeds 40 meters.
Papa's Island Resort provides on-site accommodation, creating a complete dive-and-stay package. The resort atmosphere is relaxed and intimate, befitting the remote island setting. Enriched air nitrox is available, and multi-day dive packages include trips to outer islands like Kater Island with overnight boat excursions. Advance reservations are essential — often 3-6 months ahead — due to the limited number of operators and the 24-hour ferry journey from Tokyo that makes spontaneous visits impractical.
