About this center

Illes Medes marine reserve dive centre in L'Estartit — one of the most protected marine areas in the Mediterranean.

Medas Diving Center is based in L'Estartit on Catalonia's Costa Brava, the gateway to the Illes Medes Marine Reserve — a group of seven small islands that constitute one of the most important marine protected areas in the western Mediterranean. Decades of strict protection have created an underwater paradise where marine life thrives in extraordinary abundance.

The reserve's underwater topography features tunnels, caverns, dramatic walls, and boulder fields draped in red gorgonian fans, yellow cup corals, and colourful sponges. The density of fish life is staggering: enormous dusky grouper (some weighing over 20 kg) approach divers without fear, while clouds of damselfish, bream, and barracuda fill the water column. Moray eels, octopus, and spiny lobsters hide in every crevice.

The centre holds PADI, SSI, and CMAS certifications and offers courses in four languages. The Medes Islands are just 15 minutes by boat from L'Estartit, allowing multiple daily departures. Diving is regulated by a daily permit system to protect the ecosystem, so advance booking is recommended during peak season (June-September).
