About this center
Kona Diving Company operates on Hawaii's Big Island, taking advantage of the Kona Coast's legendary calm, clear waters and dramatic volcanic underwater topography. The coastline features sheer lava drop-offs, coral-encrusted pinnacles, and black sand channels that create a unique diving environment found nowhere else in the Hawaiian Islands.
The centre's most iconic experience is the manta ray night dive, where divers kneel on a sandy bottom while giant oceanic manta rays — with wingspans up to 5 metres — swoop overhead feeding on plankton attracted by dive lights. This encounter is consistently rated among the world's top ten dive experiences. Daytime dives feature encounters with spinner dolphins, eagle rays, whitetip reef sharks, and the occasional pelagic visitor from the deep blue waters just offshore.
All dives depart from Honokohau Harbor aboard purpose-built dive boats. The Kona Coast's sheltered western exposure ensures calm conditions year-round, making it one of Hawaii's most reliable dive destinations. The centre offers full PADI certification courses and is known for its experienced, marine-biology-trained guides who provide exceptional briefings on the local ecosystem.
