About this center
Diving Center Ustica operates on the small volcanic island of Ustica, 67 km north of Palermo — Italy's very first marine protected area, established in 1986. The island's isolation and decades of protection have created an underwater paradise with some of the clearest water in the Mediterranean, visibility regularly exceeding 40 metres.
Ustica's volcanic origin provides extraordinary underwater architecture: basalt columns, lava tunnels, arches, grottos, and dramatic drop-offs that plunge into the deep blue. The marine life is spectacular — enormous grouper that approach divers without fear, clouds of damselfish and chromis, barracuda patrols, and walls covered in yellow sponges, red gorgonians, and Paramuricea clavata. Night dives reveal hunting moray eels, Spanish lobsters, and bioluminescent organisms.
The centre offers PADI and SSI courses in Italian, English, and French. The island is small enough that all dive sites are reachable within 10 minutes by boat. The season runs April through November, with peak conditions July-September when water temperatures reach 25-27°C.
