About this center
Centro de Buceo Cabo de Palos is located at one of Spain's most celebrated dive destinations — the Islas Hormigas Marine Reserve, where the warm Mediterranean meets the cooler Atlantic currents from the Strait of Gibraltar. This convergence creates an exceptionally rich marine environment rated among the best in the Mediterranean.
The reserve's submerged volcanic islands and pinnacles rise from 50+ metres to just below the surface, creating dramatic walls and overhangs covered in yellow gorgonians, red coral, and sponges. The nutrient upwelling attracts large pelagic species: barracuda in huge schools, amberjack, dentex, and the occasional ocean sunfish (Mola mola). Eagle rays and torpedo rays patrol the deeper sections, and dusky grouper populations have recovered spectacularly under marine reserve protection.
The centre holds both PADI and CMAS certifications and supports technical diving with nitrox and deep diving courses. The proximity of the Hormigas islands (just 2 nautical miles offshore) means short boat rides and multiple daily departures. Water temperatures range 14-26°C with best conditions June-October.
