About this center

Cairo's closest Red Sea dive center at Ain Sukhna on the Gulf of Suez. Shore diving, beginner-friendly, popular with local Egyptian divers.

African Divers serves the Ain Sukhna area, the closest Red Sea diving destination to Cairo, located on the western shore of the Gulf of Suez. Just 120 kilometers from the Egyptian capital, Ain Sukhna offers accessible diving for Cairo residents and short-stay visitors.

The diving environment in Ain Sukhna differs from the more famous Red Sea destinations. The Gulf of Suez has cooler, greener water than the Gulf of Aqaba or the open Red Sea, and the marine life reflects this. Reefs are less spectacular than Sharm or Hurghada but still offer interesting diving with healthy coral growth, reef fish, and occasional cuttlefish and octopus sightings.

Shore diving is the standard here, with entry from the resort beaches leading to gentle reef slopes. The straightforward conditions make Ain Sukhna an excellent place for beginners to learn in accessible, manageable conditions. PADI courses from Discover Scuba through Advanced Open Water are offered in English and Arabic.

The center caters significantly to the local Egyptian diving community, including weekend divers from Cairo who cannot easily reach Hurghada or Sharm for a quick dive trip. Friday and Saturday (Egyptian weekend) operations are particularly busy.

Ain Sukhna also offers natural hot springs (the name means 'eye of hot water' in Arabic), making it a multi-activity destination. Equipment rental is available with basic but functional gear. The center provides a practical introduction to Red Sea diving for those who want to try diving without committing to the longer journey to more famous destinations.
