Safety basics

This page does not replace training. It's a behavior reminder that reduces risk and protects calm thinking.

The essentials

Never hold your breath.

If in doubt, end the dive.

Limits and plan

  • Stay within your training and the day's conditions
  • Follow the plan and briefing, even if you want more
  • Saying "stop" early is professional

Buddy and team

  • Buddy contact matters more than any waypoint
  • Signals and roles must be clear before entry
  • If your buddy is not okay, you are not okay

Pace and breathing

  • Calm pace helps you think and reduces stress
  • If anxiety rises, stop, reset breathing, communicate

Ending a dive is a skill

Ending early is maturity, not weakness.

No shame in aborting. There is only good judgment.

FAQ

Why so strict about breath holding?
Because it's a fundamental safety principle. Not negotiable.
If the group continues but I feel uncomfortable?
Tell your buddy and guide. End the dive. Safety over route.

Follow your agency standards, instructor, and local rules. This is not a training manual.
