FAQ

How do I get to Lima Rock South?

Lima Rock South is accessed by boat from Khasab, the main town in the Musandam Peninsula. The boat ride takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes depending on conditions. Several dive operators in Khasab run daily trips to Lima Rock and surrounding sites. The Musandam Peninsula is an exclave of Oman separated from the main country by the United Arab Emirates. Access is by road from the UAE with a border crossing at Ras Al Khaimah, or by fast ferry from Muscat.

Is Lima Rock South suitable for beginner divers?

Lima Rock South is one of the most beginner-friendly dive sites in the Musandam region. Maximum depth is around 18 metres with most interesting features between 5 and 14 metres. Currents are typically mild in the sheltered waters south of the rock. The site is frequently used for Open Water certification dives and Discover Scuba Diving experiences. Even beginner divers have good chances of seeing blacktip reef sharks, which adds excitement without danger as these sharks are small and non-aggressive.

What is visibility like at Lima Rock South?

Visibility at Lima Rock South varies considerably with seasons and conditions, typically ranging from 8 to 18 metres. The Musandam waters are nutrient-rich, fed by upwellings from the Strait of Hormuz, which supports abundant marine life but reduces clarity compared to the open Red Sea or Maldives. The best visibility occurs during the cooler months from November to February when plankton levels decrease. Even on lower visibility days, the marine life density compensates for reduced range.
