Grand Turk Wall

Cockburn Town · Grand Turk · Turks and Caicos Islands

Grand Turk Wall is one of the most spectacular wall dives in the Caribbean, a sheer underwater cliff that runs the entire length of Grand Turk's leeward coast and plunges from a shallow reef shelf at just 8 metres to over 2,100 metres into the Turks Island Passage. The proximity of such abyssal depth to shore is almost unique in the diving world. The wall itself is a masterpiece of underwater architecture. Over 40 dive sites are scattered along its length, each offering different features: vertical canyons cut deep into the rock face, natural arches framing the deep blue beyond, sand chutes that funnel down into darkness, and overhangs sheltering clusters of soldierfish and squirrelfish. The wall face is blanketed in massive barrel sponges, rope sponges in purple and orange, enormous tube sponges, and delicate gorgonian sea fans that extend into the current to filter feed. Marine life along the wall is remarkably abundant and approachable. Friendly Nassau grouper follow divers along the edge, seemingly curious about their bubbles. Garden eels carpet the sandy ledge at the wall's top, swaying in unison before retreating into their burrows as divers approach. Spotted eagle rays glide past with slow wingbeats, Caribbean reef sharks cruise the deeper sections, and hawksbill turtles rest on sponge-covered ledges. The shallow reef top teems with blue tangs, queen angelfish, and dense schools of yellowtail snapper. Most of the wall sits within the Columbus Landfall National Park, which has protected the reef since 1992. Dive operators run boats from Cockburn Town, with the nearest sites just 5 to 10 minutes away. The wall is diveable year-round with consistently clear visibility exceeding 30 metres and typically mild currents. Open Water divers can enjoy the upper wall, while Advanced certification unlocks the deeper sections where black coral forests and large pelagics reward those willing to descend further.
