Bloody Bay Wall

Blossom Village · Little Cayman · Cayman Islands

Bloody Bay Wall on Little Cayman is routinely ranked among the finest wall dives on the planet, and spending even a single descent along its face makes the reason obvious. The wall begins at an astonishingly shallow 6 metres, where a narrow sand ledge gives way to a sheer vertical drop that plummets more than 1,800 metres into the Cayman Trench. There is no gradual slope, no rubble field -- just an abrupt edge and then infinity. What sets Bloody Bay Wall apart from other Caribbean wall dives is the health and density of its coral coverage. Protected within the Bloody Bay Marine Park since 1986, the wall is blanketed in massive barrel sponges, tubular rope sponges in vivid purple and orange, and enormous sea fans that sway gently in the mild current. Visibility consistently exceeds 30 metres, and on many days you can look straight down the wall and see nothing but blue fading into darkness. Marine life along the wall is abundant. Caribbean reef sharks cruise the deeper sections, while hawksbill and green turtles drift along the edge feeding on sponges. Spotted eagle rays glide past with effortless grace, and Nassau grouper lurk in the crevices. The shallower reef top is home to queen angelfish, yellowtail snapper, and dense schools of blue chromis. Night dives reveal octopus, basket stars unfurling their arms, and bioluminescent displays in the water column. Little Cayman itself is a quiet island with fewer than 200 permanent residents, which means dive sites are never crowded. The main dive operations run boats to Bloody Bay Wall multiple times daily, and the short ride means more time in the water. Divers with Open Water certification can enjoy the upper wall, though Advanced certification opens up the most spectacular deeper sections between 25 and 40 metres. The wall is diveable year-round with consistent conditions, making Little Cayman a reliable Caribbean dive destination regardless of season.

How deep is Bloody Bay Wall in Little Cayman?

The wall starts at an incredibly shallow 6 metres (20 feet) and drops vertically to over 1,800 metres (6,000 feet). Recreational divers typically explore down to 30-40 metres, where the wall is covered in spectacular sponges and corals. The shallow start makes it accessible to divers of various levels.

Do you need a boat to dive Bloody Bay Wall?

Yes, Bloody Bay Wall is accessed by boat. The ride from the resorts on Little Cayman takes about 10-15 minutes. Most dive operators on the island run two-tank morning trips and afternoon single-tank dives to the wall. The marine park is well-managed with permanent moorings.

What makes Bloody Bay Wall different from other wall dives?

Bloody Bay Wall is exceptional because the wall begins at just 6 metres depth, meaning you spend minimal time on a sandy shelf before reaching the drop-off.
